Add Some Glitter to Your Glasses!

Sunday, 13 May 2012

I'd love to share a fun little project with you guys today that will add some glitter and glamour to your next event!

I made some funky and super cute wine and margarita glasses as a Mothers Day gift for my moms.
Wanna know how?

First collect your supplies.
You'll need:
wine or margarita glasses
Mod Podge
a paint brush
GLITTER!
masking tape or painter's tape
a few pieces of card stock or just regular paper
top coat clear nail polish

First, wash your glass and make sure there is no dirt or any oil where you will be adding the glitter.
Then, tape off where you want the top of your glitter to be. I didn't go very far up the stem and that's where the most touching will be as people hold the glass right there.

Next, apply a nice, thick coat of Mod Podge to the top of the base of the glass.

Make sure to place the glass over a piece of paper as this will make it easier to get all the extra glitter that doesn't stick back into your glitter container.
Start shaking your glitter onto the Mod Podged base.
Get a lot on there and don't worry about it being too much.
99% of what you pour won't stick and can be saved for another project so shake that stuff out like crazy!

It will look done but don't be fooled. Most of that glitter will shake off.

See that? Almost all of it shakes off!

Keep the glitter you use with your glass so that you don't forget which one you used for each glass.

After about 10 minutes or until you feel that the first coat has sufficiently dried, add a second coat of Mod Podge.

And now add a second coat of glitter. Give it another shake or two to get the excess glitter off.

Allow the glasses to sit for at least 30 minutes to dry. You want them to be fairly solid before you seal them.

Now take your clear coat nail polish and add a thick coat of it to each glass completely sealing the glittered surface.

Once that is dry ( about 15 - 30 minutes ) you can start peeling off your tape. Be slow and careful with this as the Mod Podge will have weakened and rubberised it.

Once your tape is off clean off any tape residue with a soft cloth or a Q-Tip.
Now add a coat of clear coat nail polish to the top to seal that line up.

What do you think? Aren't they fun?

Make sure that you only hand wash your glasses as they are not dishwasher safe
They make a great gift ( if you can stand parting with them )!

My Lil Daughter...She Only Speaks the Truth Y'know

It seems that my daughter thinks I'm pretty amazing.
Huh.
Who woulda thunk it?

Such high praise!
Bakes great pies? Awww, she doesn't know they're store bought.
And has a great singing voice?
You precious child! Thank you for saying that!

Happy Mother's Day to all of you fabulous moms!
Please take some time to breathe easy, relax and enjoy your special day!

Is a Day Late Par-tay OK?

Friday, 11 May 2012

Duh.
I've totally blanked out this week.

It's Friday. Not Thursday.
And here I sit, as I write this, on the phone with my BF telling her that I am a blogging idiot.
I seriously shouldn't have a blog, or at least a blog that requires me to post certain posts on certain days. I'm a bit of a mental drifter.
A bit? Hmmm.....I'm a total mental drifter.

Here's a great example of what a dummy / procrastinator / dope I am:
My oldest son is going on his senior class trip in, oh about 5 weeks. I have known about this trip since September 2011. I have also known since September 2011 that we lost his passport. We had it in an envelope after we he needed it to use as ID to get his driver's licence last summer. Since then, it's been missing.

Could I have gotten started on ordering a new passport back then, what, 8 months ago? Oh sure!
Did I wait until last week to try and renew it? Yup.
And here is the very best part....
To renew a passport that is lost you have to start from scratch and get a whole new passport. And what do you need to do that? A copy of your birth certificate!
And what was in the envelope with my son's old passport? Yeah, his birth certificate. So I had to order a new one ( for $80 + a $50 rush fee ) that came in the mail yesterday and so on Monday I'm pulling him out of school so that we can go down town to apply in person and spend another bundle of cash ( passport fee + another rush fee ) so that HOPEFULLY we will have a new passport in hand by the time he leaves.

I am just that mindless.

So, please forgive me for getting the party up so late! It's not my fault...it's a disease or some such crap.

What was awesome last week?

Tanya at Dans le Townhouse entered two things that were both way too gorgeous not to feature!
The first is this Feminist DIY Mirror Project!

Tanya also made this Geometric Painting Knock-off! Lovely!

I'm loving this idea! Donna at Loopy Loop Creations shows us how to make custom Covered Light Switch Plates

Just look at how lovely this paint project from Meg at Revamp Homegoods is! What a beautiful transformation!

Jill at Creating My Way to Success shared an awesome tutorial for making these sweet car organizers

Being a huge fan of redoing old dressers myself, I was thrilled to see what Micki at Confessions of an A.D.D. Housewife did with this dresser to TV console transformation

Brittany at Crafty Mischief made this adorable and funky braided scarf and shows us how! So sweet!

Thank you so much, ladies! Please feel free to grab a Fabulously Flawed feature button!

And so on to this week's party....you all are organized enough to link up even though I put the party up a day late, right?

Sweet Necklace Giveaway!

Wednesday, 9 May 2012

This contest is now closed.

So, you may have read on my facebook that I'll be taking a blog break over the summer.
It's not like I'm posting like I used to, anyway, but especially right now even that little bit that I do seems overwhelming.

Last summer, when I was still running my etsy shop, I was chained to my computer all the time. Honestly, making something pretty, taking a few perfect photos of it, editing the photos to erase any lint or a hair that may have slipped into the photos, getting them uploaded and writing detailed descriptions of the item.....it took forever! Never mind the constant running to the post office. I'm not complaining ( don't get me wrong ) or anything. It just took up a lot of precious time.
I missed out on a lot of fun moments with my kids and I do not plan on missing one second of this coming summer!

So, since my linky tools subscription ends the first week of June anyways, I'll keep running the Thursday Par-tay until then. I might start it up again in the fall. I might not. Meh...I'll see when I get there.

To kick off my awesome summer mood, I am giving away this gorgeous necklace!

It's perfect for a romantic summer evening and pairs gorgeously with a little black dress.
The chain is 21" long and the lightweight pendant is 2 1/2 by 2".

Want it?

Just leave a comment below telling me that you are a Fabulously Flawed follower!
( Even though I won't be blogging through the summer I'll still be doing giveaways on Facebook so you should totally get in on that! )

Leave a separate comment for each entry and you're set!
I'll draw a random winner on May 16, 2012 ( so make sure you enter before then! ) and announce winner in a post the same day.
Open to USA and Canada only.

Tell Me Something Good

Tuesday, 8 May 2012

Do yourself a giant favor today.
Grab a giant cup of coffee or tea, plop yourself in front of your computer and head over to These Peas Taste Funny to read her newest post.

She interviews some super awesome bloggers ( including me ) asking questions from " How do you keep it real? " to " What about the dreaded no-reply and word verification? "

I had a blast reading the answers and got some very helpful advice, too!

Super Sweet Thursday Par-tay!

Thursday, 3 May 2012

So I took my little girl out to the city for her birthday.
We did the shopping. We did the going out for lunch with Daddy. We did the whole thing up right.
I leave my husband's workplace and the seatbelt sign suddenly starts flashing and then....
BING! BING! BING! BING! BING!
Every 3 seconds. Every 3 seconds, for 10 second spans, the seatbelt binging sound goes off.
Luckily, I am a mere 10 blocks from a dealership. So, I drive in, tell them what's up and after almost an hour and a half they tell me that there's nothing they can do about it. Ummm, what?
The mechanic starts messing around, starting and restarting the car, fastening and refastening the seatbelt. Nothing is working.
" Yeah, this can't be fixed. "

Hi Dodge, did you just say that there is nothing you can do to fix a minor electronic problem in my brand new van?

So, I Google : How to make the seatbelt light stop in a Dodge Grand Caravan.
Google found 20 - 50 sites telling me how to do it.
I read the instructions off of my phone to the mechanic ( think about how ridiculous that is! ) and he says, " Oh yeah! Now I remember how to do it!"

Anyways, after all of that nonsense the instructions were for simply disabling the light, not for fixing the actual problem of the binging sound.
I make a service appointment and leave. The service appointment is this morning. The binging started two days ago. So I've been driving around in a van for the last 2 days with that stupid binging sound happening every 3 seconds and am ---> this freaking close <--- to losing my mind over here.

My poor kids. They have a very stressed out Mommy at the moment!

So, I am especially looking forward to today's party! I need you guys to inspire and remind me to stop and relax and remember that life is pretty!

Let's see what rocked my face off last week.....

The awesome and gorgeous Nelly over at DG Innovations made these sweet wrapped wire earrings for her girl. So pretty and easy to do!

I am totally adoring this lamp made out of ski poles ( ski poles!!! ) from the totally rad Kim at Reposhture!

The girls over at Cookin' Food always bring something amazing to the party! Check out this recipe for Cheddar and Chive Drop Biscuits!

Tanya at Dans le Townhouse made this fantastic pop / abstract art that is so colorful and fun. I have got to get my hands on some of those frames!

I adore Meredith's sweet heart and how she has, so openly, shared her sadness and joys over the last year after losing her father. This post in particular had my heart skipping beats.
